During a weekly scrap metal hunt at the dump, Leslie Enders Lee found a piece of iron which immediately brought to mind a musical eighth note. As a pianist, always struggling with exacting rhythms, she considered replicating this note-like element in wax and tying the notes together. The wax tied notes were then cast in bronze using the traditional lost wax method.
