WELCOME!
My Mother and late artist Leslie Enders Lee lived and breathed making art. In fact, once she was diagnosed with cancer, it was almost as if she knew her time on this earth was short lived so she spent all the moments not in surgery, having treatments and extremely sick in bed, at her studio creating. I knew the moment she didn’t want to work on her art at the hospital meant she was done fighting (and nine days later, she took her last breath). After she passed away, I had the opportunity to go through her gallery and work space and close it. I was in disbelief at what she had created in those eleven months and also thought to myself what on earth am I going to do with all of this art?! So many of my Mom’s incredible pieces of art were on an external hard drive – she took the time to scan them at high resolution and edited them in Adobe Photoshop for color correction, scale and placement on paper. This was her way to make duplicates of her artist proofs. She wanted her art out in the world and hung on walls. I stared at this external hard drive for almost eleven years until I finally decided to launch Fethra Prints. Her gallery name was Fethra Press so I love continuing her namesake Fethra with Fethra Prints.
However, after a trip to her storage unit full of her original art, I had a new vision. I brought all of her artwork home and photographed everything. After almost 14 years of my Mom’s art sitting in a storage unit in Pawling, New York, the day is finally here where it is no longer hiding. This website has been a true labor of love. It has made me realize how truly talented my Mom was and the fact she did it all.
I am so excited and honored to have her art, both original pieces and fine art prints, out in the world. It’s too beautiful to be hidden. I hope you find something that will fill your space with art you love.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in 1946, Leslie Enders Lee graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in Art History. She continued her studies in New York at the National Academy of Fine Art and the Arts Students League. She had an extensive and traditional background in figurative drawing, printmaking, painting and sculpture. The subject matter was quite varied and came from mythology, literature, mathematics, music and nature. Many of her pieces incorporated language and wordplay. She founded Fethra Press in 2000 in order to make available to collectors her small editions of prints, portfolios and handmade books. She passed away in 2009 of a non-smokers lung cancer that she attributed to years of exposure to art chemicals and bad luck.
